Adriana Castro Mini Carriel Crossbody: Get Carried Away
The elusive perfect shoulder-to-crossbody bag is something to cherish. One that is cute and divinely exotic comes around only once in a blue moon. Adriana Castro has just made a little magic happen.
Although, surprisingly, my “blue moon” bag will not be blue. I can’t decide between the natural python – versatile and timeless (worn expertly with coordinating sandals and a palette of neutrals and pastels by Shakira) – or red-hot crocodile that will light up even the cloudiest of summer days. You really can’t go wrong here. This bag is so good, I’m getting greedy and want both!
Her carriel has it all: the adjustable strap transitions your style from shoulder to crossbody. The adorable rounded shape is adorned with an easy tab closure. And it’s a mini that isn’t so mini after all – this is the perfect-size bag for essentials. Lightweight and compact, I may not give it up for another bag for months. And the prices! Too good to be true – whether you go croc or python, for an exotic this is a steal. In python, $985, and crocodile, $1,390, at Adriana Castro.
Pair with: Mimic the curved shape of the satchel with Philip Crangi’s delicate Shield necklace. His blackened steel and 14-karat gold pendant has a charming padlock effect. On Net-a-Porter for $1,870.
Burberry Belted Check Print Shoulder Bag
There’s a first time for everything, right? That explains why I am downright appalled by the Burberry Belted Check Print Shoulder Bag. What is going on here? I normally love, love, love Burberry and its creative use of the classic house check print, but the overuse of buckles on this bag, paired with the rather bleak-looking mustard hue, makes it a complete mess. First time – and only, I hope. Available to pre-order for $1795 at Nordstrom.
Mulberry Leopard Trolley Scotch Grain Suitcase
Splashed with an animal print, the Mulberry Leopard Trolley Scotch Grain Suitcase is an essential for the sassy traveler. Despite the imposing pattern the bag somehow feels low-key, thanks to the understated colors and practical silhouette. In fact, it’s right in line with the hottest animal-print trend of the moment – light, less dramatic and slightly on the conservative side. It’s also functional, which, as any heavy packer will tell you, is detail number one when it comes to perfect travel bags. Available for $1350 at NET-A-PORTER.
Stella McCartney Woven Faux Leather Clutch
Go, Stella McCartney! I’m not usually one to jump out of my seat when I see her handbags, but I’m pretty impressed with her Woven Faux Leather Clutch. It makes even fake leather look quite chic, thanks in part to the sophisticated gray hue and woven overlay. It’s a neutral bag, but it makes a distinct statement nonetheless. Try it with a bold dress (think red or cobalt) for an instant study in contrasts that really works. Available for $1295 at Net-a-Porter.
Roger Vivier Metro Leather Shoulder Bag
The color of this Roger Vivier Metro Leather Shoulder Bag alone is enough reason to drop almost two month’s rent on a bag. It’s almost hurting my eyes, it’s so vibrant and gorgeous. The color is set off perfectly by gold-toned hardware and a perfectly proportioned chain strap. It looks great right now with my winter neutral outfits, and I can’t wait to pair it with floral prints this spring and summer. Available at MyTheresa for $2,259.
Jason Wu Kate Python Embossed Calfskin Shoulder Bag
Jason Wu goes clean and crisp for spring 2012 – but don’t mistake that for dull and dreary. The designer serves up big color, quirky details and endless versatility with this vast new collection. The Kate Python Embossed Calfskin Shoulder Bag definitely falls into the “it’s not easy being green” category, what with its acid (some might say puke) green hue and edgy silver straps. This is as close as you’ll get to pulling off a color like this – and really, if acid green is your thing, it’s best to go big or go home. Available to pre-order for $1745 at Nordstrom.
Steven by Steve Madden France Leather Tote
It’s a good thing Nordstrom had this tote featured on its main page, because I never would have noticed it otherwise. From Steven by Steve Madden, the France Leather Tote aims to be all things to all women – and I think it may actually succeed, to a point. The minimally detailed carryall is intelligently designed with adjustable straps, interior and exterior pockets, card slots and a phone pocket – in other words, it’s the ultimate bag for the busy gal on the go who doesn’t have time to dig around for her stuff or change her bag every five minutes. The inside is lined with a colorful striped print for an added kick. I don’t think you can go wrong with this fabulous tote. Even the price is reasonable for a “forever” bag! Available for $198 at Nordstrom.
Salvatore Ferragamo Betulla Chain Handle Leather Shopper
The basic black bag is anything but basic thanks to Salvatore Ferragamo, who refashions the classic design into something far more luxurious. The Betulla Chain Handle Leather Shopper features a unique, softly-curved opening and a pair of slinky gold chain handles. It’s perfect if your tastes run more glam than classic. Available for $1290 at Nordstrom.
Melie Bianco Marina Stripe Clutch
Oh, how I adore Melie Bianco! Masters of the cheap yet chic handbag, they introduce the Marina Stripe Clutch just in time for spring. In your choice of red/white or black/white stripes, Marina strikes a playful note punctuated by a softly rounded silhouette that looks casual and suits any breezy day ensemble. Available for $58 at Nordstrom.
L’Wren Scott Small Stamped Leather Pouchette
Rich, cherry-colored leather would be lovely even if no one did anything to it, but this unique stamped leather bag takes things to a whole new level. Gaze upon this dark garden of deep red flowers curling whimsically around this breathtaking clutch, and whip out your credit card. You’re powerless against the power of the L’Wren Scott Small Stamped Leather Pouchette. Available at Barneys for $1,730.
