9 things: Primary Colors Handbags
When I see red, yellow, and blue paired together I am immediately reminded of my childhood. I specifically remember my first watch that featured all of these colors and some silly designs. From these primary colors we can make a range of other colors, but today’s feature is solely about red, yellow, and blue.
With many of my favorite online shopping haunts showing bright primary color handbags, I wanted to round up my 9 favorite to help you get on trend.

Lookalike Shopping Spree: Alexander McQueen Folk Small Shopper
Attention, loyal readers! It’s time for us to reveal the results from last week’s Shopping List Poll and the bag chosen for this week’s lookalike collection. The winner and focus of our shopping spree is the Alexander McQueen Folk Small Shopper! First spotted for $2,445 from Zappos Couture, this purse seemed too pricey to get hold of – but have no fear: we’ve found five more affordable lookalikes (NOT fakes) for you to enjoy. We’re aching to know your favorite, so be sure to tell us in the comment section below!
1. Steve Madden Upper East Side Tote $108
2. Aisling Tote $428
3. BB Charlotte Satchel $69.95
4. Carla Mancini 969 Fold-Over Cross-Body $525
5. Carlos Falchi Tassel Tote $289.95
Burberry Check Print Satchel
Oh, to be in need of a new Burberry purse. If I were, I’d be sitting here, credit card in hand, rapidly ordering this chic Check Print Satchel. Quite possibly one of the most attractive variations of the classic pattern, it’s shown off in a sublime, understated gray and cream palette and finished with bold topstitching and a bundle of oversized tassels. These contrasts lend it a look that is at once strong and ladylike. Just beautiful, and such a great example of what Burberry does best. Available for $1295 at Nordstrom.
Proenza Schouler PS11 Leather Tote
Things are getting brighter over at Proenza Schouler – and just in time, obviously. A shot of neon yellow makes for quite an alarming, statement-making bag, and can often be a questionable fashion choice. On the PS11 Leather Tote, though, there’s a dash of light, airy mint and a pinch of chartreuse to ease things up. Whether or not it’s actually “soft” is another matter altogether (I’m going with not), but it’s still quite a feisty little number that will work wonders in livening up your spring wardrobe. Available for $1650 at Barneys New York.
RED Valentino Straw & Denim Bucket Bag
I’m usually not a big fan of Valentino’s signature big bow effect but it seems to work with the Straw & Denim Bucket Bag. The rustic blue bow softens the rugged woven straw and the tan leather straps polish it off. The drawstring closure is a natural for this tote, giving it a quaint look rather than one of a high-end designer purse. Even the price tag is down to earth – you can get this cool summer carryall for only $395 at Saks.
Foley + Corinna Patchwork Hobo
It’s a game plan that could easily have gone awry, but Foley + Corinna have somehow managed to incorporate one hot trend with one old-fashioned design element and make it work like a charm. The label’s Patchwork Hobo sounds like it might almost be dreadful, but it’s actually pretty cool and laid-back. A pop of pink livens up the beige and white blocks and makes a valiant effort to transform the bag from simple to stellar. Maybe I wouldn’t go quite that far, but I think this is one patchwork bag that manages to look anything but country bumpkin. Pretty much all you can ask for, frankly. Available for $550 at Bloomingdale’s.
Paco Rabanne Le 69 Iconic Pitch Black Shoulder Bag
The year 1969 was something of a record maker for Paco Rabanne. It was when his best-selling fragrance Calandre was launched, and it also saw the release of the label’s beloved chain-mail handbag. It’s no wonder that, with the Rabanne brand experiencing a slight resurgence, the bag has been reintroduced to reflect modern design preferences. The new Le 69 Iconic Pitch Black Shoulder Bag has been reinterpreted into something very 2012, complete with a hodgepodge of metal charms like buttons, coins, and locks. There’s obviously a fearless element to this design, something that Rabanne prides himself on achieving time and again. Old school fans may gasp in dismay, but the label might just earn itself some new fans in the process. Available for $10,400 at LuisaViaRoma.
Salvatore Ferragamo Fancy Textured Leather Shoulder Bag
Graceful and quietly elegant, the Fancy Textured Leather Shoulder Bag from Salvatore Ferragamo is one of the classiest pieces I’ve seen in quite a while. The unique shade of soft periwinkle makes it instantly enigmatic – without an ounce of drama. Detailed with a beautiful, languid chain strap, it’s ultimately a very simple, timeless purse that will definitely earn you a few compliments over the years. Available for $839 at MyTheresa.
